Change your thought, you change your world! Karen Emma Hall

"Your thoughts are stars you can make milky ways and galaxy's with!"
-Articles for Kid Literature written by Karen Emma Hall

When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
Have you ever noticed on occasions, whatever day it is, it still feels like a Monday? You wake up, the same feeling, the same sameness? So you hit the snooze button and hope when you next open your eyes it will be Tuesday or hopefully Friday?
Negative feelings can eat away at anyone's productivity and creativeness. And yet, how difficult is it, to reverse this pattern once it has slowly started to roll down this track?

Sometimes it feels as if the negative has a stronger impact on us than the positive. We should be remembering the good stuff, and not dwelling on the bad stuff.

Why is it, that our brains focus on the negative?  Is it due to the fact that we are made that way; because our genetics are deep embedded from the days when we were always on red alert to attack and survive? Yes, apparently, we are always on the look out for threats (negativity) in order to self protect. In today's world it doesn't always reflect reality. Some of us have re-trained our brains over time, but these deeply embedded instincts can overtake us on certain occasions. There is hope and positivity though. We can  rethink ourselves to anything we want!

Once we become more mindful, by paying attention to the present moment without criticism and judgment, you open an awareness beyond the negativity, which can help bring back more balance and positivity into your mind.
Whenever you do specific tasks over and over again, they take up less of your brain power over time, so you learn something new. Your brain then changes its patterns.
If you are dwelling on the negative, your brain switches to negative, (then that negative ball is at a risk of  rolling out of control) so switch it to a better way of thinking. YES! When you understand this, you can change your behavior for the better!
Do this by looking for ways to help others, to be positive, to be happy. This allows good feelings to flow. Once you have this attitude, you become more insightful, which allows you to get back on the road to feeling more positive than negative, therefore retraining your brain.
Pay attention to the present moment without criticizing and judging. Open an awareness beyond the narrowness of negativity. Do it over and over until you change your brain's pattern.
This will bring you right back on the positive track.

Depending on our personality and our life experiences is how we deal with every day issues. But once we know how to re-train our brain then the easier it is to cope. Some will have to focus and take time out to re-learn these things. Whenever negativity hits us and it is not in our control, it can seem as if all is lost. It is not. We have just hit that negative survival feeling again.
And you will find that path you once walked on that made you happy. If you re-train by doing these simple techniques over and over, you jump back quicker. You train your brain to happiness, just as you would with anything else, you repeat the process.. a lot.

Whenever a writer hits a lull, or a dry up or writing, or just can't bring themselves to do it, take time out and do something to make yourself happy. Even if it is a walk outside, or a trip somewhere, or retailing, or giving to others in any little way. It will bring you back to your natural balance, allow you to relax and re-focus.
read-  Are you meant to be a writer? are-you-meant-to-be-writer ? By Karen Emma Hall

This last week has been bittersweet like that. I was overjoyed to know that while visiting Amsterdam very briefly for a few hours, I would be stepping in to the Anne Frank house. A house that would be filled with the memories of those hidden away in the secret Annex and every person who stepped into this house felt as if they had stepped back in time.
- I do have my diary account of my visit to the Anne Franks house and I can't wait to share that (after I go there again this April).

It was also a sad time to learn about Terry Pratchett leaving us far to soon at the age of 66.

As a child, books can influence you and get you through difficult times as well as learning and enjoying new words, subjects and discoveries. Terry Pratchett provided warmth, humor, and the ability to make you look forward to reading the next day when your eyes would not stay open any longer in the early hours. They gave you courage and helped build confidence. The happy anticipation is your reward when looking forward to the next chapter or the next new book. This helped a lot of people get through a day.
Inspirational authors like Terry Pratchett spurred some people on to be writers.
If faced with a writer you admire, what could you possibly say that would convey just how important their work was to you? How they affected or changed your life? How you felt they could reach into your head and know how you feel and manage to put your thoughts down in ink in a way you could only hold in your head. They reach across a universe of readers and unite us all. As if to help us understand we all feel the same thing.

You will have bookshelves of your favourite authors and Terry's books would be among them. Terry was Britain's best selling author in the nineties. A genius of comic fantasy and creator of the Discworld series who sold more than 85 million books.
He could take one sentence and make you laugh or drag you into the story, and then you would be hooked. He made ordinary words look amazing, and his characters were so good. Terry was a creator of imagination and destination. He spun imagery before your eyes until you were transported there, and then made you laugh so hard, you wanted to stay there.
Reality and imagery, the foundations of your mind.
Terry lives on through his books and as authors we get that. We know we will live on through our books or our writing. Forever, as long as there are stars.

World book day is globally celebrated

World book day is globally celebrated
Written by Karen Emma Hall for Kid Literature.

World Book Day Celebration!
Today, the 5th of March 2015, is World Book day!
Please read my blogs all about books and amazing interesting funny facts and a jolly good read. Best to have a cup or three of coffee or tea!
Settle down and enjoy Kid Literature's involvement with World Book day!
First of all I am out at schools today (two) to help organise reading events and fun dressing up. The dressing up will be of favourite book characters! So I am very excited for that.

All children on World Book Day are allowed to read and enjoy reading. There is no such thing as children who do not like reading; it's more likely that the right book has not found the child, and that is up to us as adults to show them their very own type of book they will love. How do you do this you ask? In a simple sentence or two, you would do this by enjoying reading and loving books yourself. Allow them to see you reading, spend time with them and picking out a book you would be enjoying together.

Make time to go to libraries. More than this, make it exciting and fun. When you wake up in the morning and you have a chart you have made about books showing the days you will visit the library or book store or charity book store, then find fun ways to get them excited to go! Do a countdown board. Cut out pictures of books, or even better get the children to colour in their own book activity sheet, like we have on our pinterest boards and our other platforms (Links above and below).
You will then be building confident readers, who turn into confident adults.

Every child has their own pace. Not all are interested in books or reading. But they do love or are drawn to certain topics. Find out what that is by enjoying listening to your child.
There is a world of books out there and a world of books for every topic!
Bring the two together, add in a child! Magic ingredients :)

For World Book Day you may be reading to a child? or a classroom! You may be judging a competition to draw interest and the fun aspect. Oh the enjoyment you will get! Oh the places they will go!

Dress up as their favourite character for the day. A lot of children worldwide are dressing up as their favorite character.
This makes all the children have fun. One child is not singled out over the other. Everyone is united. Everyone reads at their own pace, and this event helps inspire children forward on their own little path. Whether a large step or a small step, it is a step and it is their step. and so so important.
Tiny moves makes for bigger steps.

Always read to our children.  This proves particularly helpful when uncovering reading problems or confidence. It all boils down to confidence and they both go hand in hand.
Eventually they will go on to more complex narratives and a better character development. Do not be dissuaded by unsettling times or reluctance. You just keep on being positive and excited bout a reading day, or a day out with a picnic reading, wrapping books up as gifts and having a book day as a birthday or fun day.
It will come, just see! Believe in me.

Confidence allows a child to continue to build on their love of literature.

Come World Book Day some children are able to chose one of the characters from their favourite books. They may love this as they collected this book from a series they received for their Birthday!
The day your child asks for books on their birthday is a fine day.
Read about my daughter's love of reading here. My daughter has now got a lot of stories ready to go into books. She will be starting off with a novel that is light years ahed of her generation, read how she started here ! kidliteraturetoday.blogspot about a magical-being-sought-after-by-kids.html

So they can dress up as The worst Witch
Harry Potter characters
A broom!
A book
A cat in a hat!
A dinosaur
A hunger games character, or Lemony Snicket!
A teddy bear or a wolf!
A dog!
An owl, a cat or a magical fairy!!!!

It is always a pleasure to see children so excited by books.

You always remember this moment with happy warm feelings. You feel all snug inside like the Grinch did. Enabling children of your, mine, their future, to take a massive leaps in their own personal development. And you just see where their personal development takes them in the world, and the places they will go!.

Be happy when World Book Day comes around.  Celebrate!
We have always had the belief  at Kid Literature, that the joy of literature can communicate itself and that there are many ways to appreciate books. Follow is to see!
Children choose characters in books that they identify with and this enables them to have a relationship with the book and with literature that is elevated above the mere task of seeing letters that form into words on a page.

Dr Seuss Day

   Happy Birthday Dr Seuss!
Fun facts and activites

Happy Birthday Dr Seuss - Fun facts and activities to do.

*March 2 is the birthday of Theodore Seuss Geisel. March the 2nd is read across America day.

*It also happens to be World Book day #Worldbookday very soon, March 7th 2019 Thursday. So much celebrating and reading and fun is to be had.

*Who is Theodore Seuss Geisel? Who indeed! only the biggest Who from Whoville and none other than Dr Seuss himself!

*Dr Seuss is the creator of the Cat in the hat and some amazing children's books. (See below for the list)

Dr Seuss is a children's literature pioneer and icon for inspirational resources, books and quotes. If you love kid literature then you know it will not take you long to come across this genius, who knew how to speak kid language. And as we at Kid Literature know, our quote be stand by on all of our platforms is 'Someday you all will be old enough to read kid literature'.

Born March 2, (1904 – September 24, 1991) Theodore Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss. was an American writer and cartoonist. He was most widely known for his children's books, which he wrote and illustrated under the pseudonym Dr. Seuss. He had used the pen name Dr. Theophrastus Seuss in college and later used Theo LeSieg and Rosetta Stone. His works lay claim to  feature films and television adaptations. He won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in 1958 for Horton Hatches the Egg and again in 1961 for And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street. Geisel also worked as an illustrator for advertising campaigns, and a cartoonist for a newspaper. During World War II, he worked in an animation department of the United States Army. Dr Seuss never had any children.

Geisel published 46 children's books and he decided that the boring, samely 'Dick and Jane' series was so boring that he wanted children to read something...something that would make them WANT to read.

 "I have great pride
in taking Dick and Jane
out of most school libraries,"
he said. "That is my greatest satisfaction."

Many of his books were written to teach children how to appreciate others, encourage kids to think and their your imagination and to also make people aware of injustice in the world.

You can find many more details about Dr. Seuss and his life at the Seussville website link below.

In 'Green Eggs and Ham' Bennett Cerf, Dr. Seuss' editor, bet him that he couldn't write a book using 50 words or less. The Cat in the Hat  was so simple it was the required magic ingredients that was so sought after whether the world knew it yet or not. .
Keep it simple stupid (KISS) was applied and there you go - 50 words of simplicity, albeit genius. The children of the world were in for a fun, magic surprise.
These imaginative characters, and the way the rhyme was put together, was what changed the way everyone thought about children's books. All of a sudden the kid literacy world looked to be light years ahead of the  'Dick and Jane' books (or in the UK, where I am from, the equivalent was the 'Janet and John' books).
How it made them feel when they could steer their feet in this direction and see the places they could go!
It made small children enjoy reading, it made adults think.

Imagine writing 50 words and spending a year on that book!
Well Dr Seuss being the perfectionist he was, did just that. He also had been known to throw out all of his work if he was not 100% completely satisfied! Imagine nearly finishing your book if you will, and then something isn't right so you throw it out. No cutting out paragraphs and chapters, (which is hard to do) just throwing the lot away! How hard is it to let go of a character or 2, but imagine binning the lot!
Yes, let's use a lot of exclamation marks in true Dr Seuss Style!!!! The man was a fool! He had to be!
No! he was a genius.
It can be a fine line between the two, in any generation, but maybe they can go hand in hand as he certainly got it right.
That was Dr Seuss.

     Dr Seuss top celebrated books

  1. Green Eggs and Ham,
  2. The Cat in the Hat, and the Cat in the Hat comes back (Full story is read below on video)
  3. The Lorax,
  4. One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish,
  5.  The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins,
  6.  Fox in Socks,
  7. There's a wocket in my pocket,
  8. The King's Stilts,
  9. Hop on Pop,
  10. Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose,
  11. Horton Hatches the Egg,
  12. Horton Hears a Who!
  13. and my favorite of all How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Not everyone likes or agree's with Dr Seuss, or his old stereo-type cartoons he once did for a magazine, long before he became famous.
But I like to look at the positive and it far out-ways any negative. Why search out the flaw among all that is good unless you only wish to see the negative? He did actually publicly apologise if he had used racial terms in those bygone days, which is a very admiral thing to do. I like to think of Dr Seuss as the Grinch who famously apologised in the book and film.

And there is more! ...

What marvellous work he did for children's literature and how well he tuned into the minds of the young, our children and to know what it is they would love to read. To get them to enjoy books again! Who could re-create that? a few but not so many..and wait, there is more! Oh Yes he is not done!

A recently "found" Dr. Seuss book called "What Pet Should I Get?" was released on July 28 2015
When they announced the news that  they were to get this gift from Dr Seuss from beyond the grave so it seemed,  the literacy world turned into whoville with  genuine whoville town collaborative exclamation intake of breath. Even outdoing  the news about Harper Lee's first new book in half a century to be published in July 2015
The full text and illustrations of “What Pet Should I Get?” were found by Geisel’s widow, Audrey, while she was re-doing their home shortly after the author’s death. It was believed he had worked on this late 1950's, early 60's. She put them to one side along with other and forgot out them, only to re-discover them gain in 2013! so pleased she did.
